It’s time to register for the CUPE 1281 Convention! If you are elected as a delegate, an executive officer, or are a sub-unit steward, or if you intend to participate as a non-voting member, including as a retiree, please complete this registration form to confirm your attendance at Convention. If your sub-unit has not run an election yet to form a delegation, and has over 5 members, please do so as soon as possible.
Convention Details
This year’s annual convention will be held on Monday July 21, 2025, and will run from 10am to 5pm. Convention will be hybrid: in-person at the Workers Action Centre in Toronto, as well as virtual on Zoom. At our annual convention, sub-unit delegates of our local gather to receive reports from the executive committee, discuss new business items and elect the executive committee and convention and council delegates for the upcoming year.
Travel Arrangements
Elected sub-unit delegates, sub-unit stewards, and Executive officers requiring travel arrangements must indicate this on the registration form and complete the form by no later than July 7. The executive committee will be arranging and booking hotels, but delegates are expected to book their own low-cost, reasonable travel which will be reimbursed by the local soon after purchase. If you want to ensure your travel costs will be reimbursed by the local, please first get your booking approved, by emailing your planned booking to Leila at admin@cupe1281.ca before finalizing the purchase. As a final note, all necessary expenses, approved by our secretary-treasurer and related to a delegate’s participation at convention, will be compensated by the local with the submission of this completed expense form with receipts.
Delegate Selection
Each sub-unit of the local is entitled to send a delegation to Convention as outlined in our bylaws. The sub-unit steward is always a delegate. Other delegates, if applicable, are elected from among the membership of the sub-unit. The number of delegates available to each sub-unit is determined by the following, where “PBU” means ‘Position in the Bargaining Unit’:
- 1 to 5 PBUs 1 delegate
- 6 to 10 PBUs 2 delegates
- 11 to 20 PBUs 3 delegates
- 21 to 40 PBUs 4 delegates
- 41 to 80 PBUs 5 delegates
Sub-units with 80 PBUs or more shall be entitled to 6 delegates. The number of PBUs in any sub-unit is the average number of employees in the bargaining unit who pay dues in any month from the months of January to March, inclusive and rounded down. Members on an unpaid leave of absence shall not be calculated in determining the total number of positions in the bargaining unit. If you have not yet elected your Convention delegates, please do so as soon as possible so they can register on time.
